Born Mavis Joan Lazarus.517 Australia’s first female QC. She has a number of legal buildings named after her in the legal district of Melbourne. In 1923, Joan Rosanove QC (1896-1974) was the pioneering advocate to sign the Roll of Counsel of the Victorian Bar. Joan was also the first woman in Victoria appointed a Queen's Counsel in 1965. Her daughter became the first Victorian woman judge in 1976 when Justice Margaret Lusink was appointed to the Family Court of Australia.
Joan was the inspiration for the Jennifer Carson character in 80s TV series CARSON’S LAW and was played by Lorraine Bayly (ex The Sullivans).37
