Deceased Name: ERIC EDWARD CASSIRER

Eric Cassirer: Poet, Philosopher, Teacher, Friend to many and dearly loved husband of Jessica, died peacefully on December 26, 2004.

Eric was born in 1917 in Breslau, Germany, to Martin and Lisbet Cassirer. The Cassirer family was well-known for their intellectual contribution to the Arts and Sciences in pre-war Berlin where Eric spent his teenage years. Imprisoned by the Nazis for being a member of an under ground organization, he escaped to America in 1938. During the war years, he worked in the US and Alaska, finally settling in Ventura Co., California, where he became a successful businessman and entrepreneur. It was here that Eric and his first wife, Ilse, raised their three children, Frank, Bruce and Susan. After he retired from business life, Eric designed and built a counseling center in Santa Barbara, called Shanom, which become the foundation for his future work. He conducted workshops in the US, Europe and Scandinavia which were a unique blend of his own life experiences, his deep understanding of the human condition and the early influences of his uncle, Ernst Cassirer, the well-known philosopher. As an exceptionally gifted teacher, Eric inspired and challenged people to experience something more than the mundane, and many credit the wisdom of Eric Cassirer for having profoundly influenced their lives.

It was in Europe that Eric met his present wife Jessica, and since 1981, they have made their home in Santa Fe. Eric was a regular visitor to the Santa Fe Spa Gym and Ojo Caliente Hot Springs, where his 87 year old fearless spirit will be greatly missed, but always present for those who knew and loved him. Eric was the last surviving member of his German family which also included his brother Franz and sister Suzanne. He is survived by his wife Jessica, his family in California, grand-daughters Sarah and Rachel Kaplan, and nieces and nephews in England.

Jessica would like to express her deepest gratitude to the exceptional staff of El Castillo for their loving care and also to the Hospice Angels.

Goodnight sweet Prince........
