Werner Falk’s comment: And the last in the family, the last person who still did sort of [observe some Jewish ritual, for example on [friday] evenings] was my great grandmother - my mother's grandmother - which is part of the family's saga because it was gross muter Cecilie who lived well into her 80's. And she was my mother's grandmother, that is to say she was the mother of the mother that my mother had lost so early, and had been taking the place of a mother to my mother. There was a very very intimate relationship.
She was quite an exceptionally nice woman. She was just goodness personified. People would all come and bring their worries to her, and their quarrels, and she would try to smooth things over. She was famed for this. We all really loved her. She died when I was 12 but I remember quite well going over frequently and reading the newspapers to her because her eyesight was failing.
