Notes for Audrey Doris FINK
“Audrey was born in Melbourne to Doris and Roland Fink, eldest of four children. She was Sports Captain of St Catherine's School in Toorak and visited Perth in 1934 as a member of the Victorian State Hockey Team.
Audrey studied Social Work at Melbourne University and on the advice of her supervisor to "Pioneer, Miss Fink!" came to WA in May 1938 to be first medical social worker in WA at Royal Perth Hospital. She worked part-time as a social worker in Perth with the Mental Health Services until her retirement in 1983.
She married Robert Gordon Robinson in February 1939. They lived in North Perth while he ran a garage before enlisting in May 1940 and serving in Palestine. Audrey then went back to Melbourne where Bruce was born in 1945. After the war they moved back to Perth and in 1950 the family moved to "Nonda", an orange orchard at Gosnells. Audrey divorced in 1956 and moved with Bruce to South Perth.
Audrey had a keen and enduring interest in nature and the environment and was President of the Tree Society, a member of Western Walking Club, and a committee member of the WA Naturalists Club. She greatly enjoyed her bush trips with the Naturalists and the Walking Club to remote places and with the family to Margaret River. .
Audrey devoted a lot of time to her granddaughters Kathryn, Margie and Julia and shared with them many things she treasured, including her appreciation of the Australian bush and of the poetry of Banjo Paterson. She saw the marriage of all three granddaughters and the birth of her first great-grandchild Ella in her last eighteen months.
In June 2003 Audrey moved to Weston Hostel, Hollywood Village She still played Scrabble twice a week with Sue and kept her famous sense of humour until the last.”
