David Schoenbrun's wife, Dorothy, joined him at the end of the war. She was born July 6th, 1915 in New York only a few months after David (who was born also in New York on March 15th, 1915). She had been in France and Italy before David could get there and had won first prize at Parson's fine arts university in New York for a one-year study tour in Europe before the war. David met Dorothy in Long Island and they married, aged 23, on September 23rd 1938. They first lived on 23rd street in Manhattan on the 23rd floor.  Dorothy occasionally accompanied her husband in his reporting on the French colonies, during peace and war. Dorothy considered 23 was her lucky number until David died on 23rd of May 1988. Dorothy died on 26th January 1996. She left her daughter Lucy a beautiful collection of watercolors depicting mainly Paris in the late forties and fifties but also Israel and Vietnam.660
