Notes for Ian Philip TAMWORTH
St Catherine's House records his birth in 1913 Vol 5B, page 783, Bideford . Mother's maiden name Akerman.
He was a POW in Hong Kong. He was awarded the MC for his actions in Hong Kong.
He has one son Philip Tamworth, who is married with three sons, Richard (26), David (20) and Peter about 18/19.
When I met him in September 2001, he told me that the only members of the family that he had ever met were Benn Levy, the playwright and Eliot Cohen.
For many years we had all wondered where the son of Louis Tamworth might be. Fortunately he was living in Devon within a few yards of where his father had a house. I wrote to him and almost immediately had a phone call from him - "Hello cousin" .... Correspondence followed and he was first visited by David and Judy Maitland. David and Ian looked at each other with surprise as they were very alike. The following year RFH and I had a delightful lunch with him and chatted about family matters. His life had been a most interesting one and the fact that the family was once again in contact was mutually agreeable.
His son, Philip invited David Maitland and his wife to attend his funeral., however they were not in England at the time. He also advised me by email and then wrote me a very nice letter saying how pleased his father had been to once again put the families in touch.
