| Subject: Re: Family Tree of the Jewish People: Noah WACHSMANN Date: 12 August 2005 6:13:41 AM
Hi Jim, Since this discussion started, Irene Newhouse contacted me about my connection to the Cassierer family and questioned the idea that Hirschel Wachsmann was the father of Noah, Mendel and Salomon. I have gone over many of the available papers I have (the rest are in my archive room.......yes, I have an archive room!), and from what I can surmise, despite the fact that I was told this history is about 500 years old, Hirschel MUST be the brother of those three and not their father. What I know question is whether Ernestine Blumenthal was his mother or wife! Since I’ve seen her gravestone myself, I have that information for sure. I couldn’t find Hirschel’s grave next to hers but did dig down a few inches to realize that there was a stone next to her, about the same size, but fallen over face down (of course!). I assume it was his. Her stone did say she was the wife of Zvi Hirsch Wachsmann, so I assume he was her husband and not her son (ZVI=Hirsch, therefore, Hirschel). She was 9 years younger than Hirschel, but died a year earlier than he did. Since I now know that Noah was born in 1792, Mendel either 1795 (I think the correct date) or 1801 as another document says, and Salomon born 1807, Ernestine could not have been the MOTHER of Noah or Mendel and only maybe mother of Salomon if she was a child bride. Therefore I am thinking of changing my records to reflect my suppositions despite hundreds of years of tradition. Best, Carol

Dear Carol,
I have made appropriate corrections to my database which will be updated on the web over the weekend. If you have time to check the resulting Wachsmann side of things for accuracy that would be really great.
Thanks for corresponding with me.
It is very very very !!! much appreciated.
All the very best,
Jim

Dear Jim, I thought we had corresponded about our Cassierer connection before, but it must have been some other line since I know we have compared notes before. As for the Noah Wachsmann problem: I went to Tost (now Toszek, Gliwice, in Poland) in 1997 and found the grave of Ernestine Blumenthal Wachsmann, the wife of Hirshel Wachsmann, supposedly the father of Noah, Mendel and Solomon according to the 200 year old family tree handed down to me. I, however, have come to a conclusion that Hirshel was NOT the father of those men, but their BROTHER. That is the only way this relationship makes sense. I cannot find any documentation to prove this. My assumption is that the 4 men’s father was PINCHUS because: 1) Hirschel could not possibly be the father (he was too young) of the other three children as was written by the Wachsmnn family history handed down to me from Paul Waxman in 1970 (he got it from Herbert Wachsmann in London after WW II, and he had a copy most likely from Walther Wachsmann in Sweden, whose father did the original work in the early 1900’s). I have Hirschel’s death record from Tost: he died 11pm, Wed. 26 Nov. 1856 at 73 yr. old. The family said he was buried in Koenigshuette because there was no cemetery in Tost, but I found the cemetery (after a great adventure). 2) Beuthen Jewish death record #1184405 says that Menachem Mendel, son of Pincus Wachsmann died in 1859 at 58 years old, making Mendel born in 1801 (however the Beuthen death civil record on microfilm at the FHL #1418032 says Mendel Wachsmann of Siemianowitz died of pneumonia 6 Jan 1859 at 64 years old which would make him born in 1795) - in either case Hirschel could not be his father. 3) Noah had a son named ‘Pincus,“ one of Mendel’s sons is name Phillip (Hebrew name quite often is Pincus), and Solomon had a son Phillip, probably Pincus as well. As for the Cassierer family, I have been trying to find out more about them for many years now, and would love to see what you have done, so I will look at the website this week. I will be gone from Aug. 12-18th, so I’ll get back to you after that.. If I forget, please remind me! All the best, Carol

I have noted that the DOB of Noah Wachsmann (1792) is given as the same as his mother Ernestine Blumenthal. Should I assume it is Ernestine’s DOB which is incorrect? Do you have a correction. I am using some of this material in my work on the Cassirers, which you can see at http:// cassirer.meta-studies.net.
