Notes for Julia SOLOMON
Julia came to Australia with her mother and most of her siblings, on the ship Britomart, to join their convict father.

Her will was very detailed, particularly with regard to disposal of her china and silver. She also remembered her servants in the will. The estate was sworn as being under the value of Twenty one thousand one hundred and eighty five pounds. The details of the final realisation in 1931 shows the value as being 11,507.17.6 pounds but this might have been after the disposal of some of the assets.

The original records of the marriage at the Sydney (York Street) Synagogue show Lewis Wolff Levy. Witnesses Moses Joseph and Abraham Levy. It was not possible to decide if the Levy was or /was not spelt Levey.

Previously unknown (at least to me) is the fact that Julia visited England in 1901. The census of that year shows her as living with her son Octave at 53 Holland Park Avenue, Kensington. It shows her place of birth as Bath, Somerset, and her age as 76 both of which agree with the information already held.

There are two photographs of Julia, one as part of a group standing outside Cahors, Macleay Street, Potts Point, the other a portrait.

Her certificate of death lists her father's occupation as Merchant, and her place of birth as Bath or London. Bath is correct and is listed as her place of birth in the British census of 1901. The cause of her death was listed as heart failure and bronchitis. The witnesses to her burial were J Samuels and Percy Samuels.
